Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology

Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology (NCET) was started in the year 2001 under the aegis of Nagarjuna Education Society, Bengaluru, founded by Shri J V Ranga Raju, Director, NCC Limited. Nagarjuna College of Engineering & Technology is an autonomous institution under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, the only technological university in the state of Karnataka. The Institution is recognized by Government of Karnataka and approved by AICTE, New Delhi.
The Institution has secured accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and has been awarded with “A” grade.
NCET has crafted the vision to be among the Top Engineering Colleges in Karnataka. All the strategies and policies that we plan have this over-arching goal as a guide. The college has very good infrastructural facilities and the faculty at NCET are among the best in their fields.
The Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology is strategically located on the Bengaluru-Hyderabad National Highway, a road that falls on the Golden quadrangle. Its proximity to the International airport at Bengaluru gives it strategic location and commutability. The Institution has lush green campus spread over 100 acres with on-campus residential facility for boys, girls and staff. These hostels have amenities like mess, recreation room, state of art Gymnasium, automated laundry facilities, etc. Students are encouraged to actively participate in outdoor games. The college has a spacious library with well stacked books and well subscribed e-journals and e-books. The college is also a member of the VTU Consortium for e-resources.
The college is recognized as Nodal Center for virtual lab facility, sponsored by MHRD, Government of India. The Institution is associated with IIT-B, Mumbai for the project titled e-Yantra on Robotic Technology for students and staff. ISRO has recognized our college as one of the centres to carry out the student projects under STUDSAT. The institution also has MoUs with different leading industries like Texas Instruments, EMC2, Oracle, NCC, Data Talk, Spaneous, United Technologies etc.
The college has received two programmes under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), one in the department of Mechanical Engineering and another in Electronics and Communication Engineering to train the unskilled youth to transform them into specialists in specific areas.
The college is recognized by Government of Karnataka as a Centre of Innovative Science and Engineering Education. The college was started with three B.E. programmes in 2001 and has grown to offer five B.E degree programmes, Five M.Tech programmes and MBA programme. Eight departments have been recognized as research centers by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum to offer Ph.D. programme. Three of our UG courses were accredited by NBA during 2009.
Nagarjuna College of Engineering & Technology also focuses on imparting training in soft-skills, logical reasoning, aptitude tests, interviews, group discussion, etc and provides placement opportunities to all eligible candidates in leading industries. The college gives lot of importance to train the students in the areas of Environmental protection, personality development, communication skills, ethics and human values. In this connection, the institution has MoUs with ISKCON and Art of Living Foundation.
The college is well managed by its young and dynamic CEO Shri Chaithanya Verma and is headed by Dr S G Gopala Krishna, able and dynamic principal, who has been awarded recently with Best Principal award by VTU. The coordination & team work of all concerned at Nagarjuna Education Society and the commitment & determination of the management has made us to fulfill our vision “Leadership & Excellence in Education”.
Benefits of Autonomous Status
Academic Freedom: The Autonomous Status accords an institution with the freedom to frame the syllabus and customize it as per the needs of the Industry. Students are taught the latest and relevant technologies to make them competent in the market. Experts from various industries and experienced academicians from reputed institutes are consulted in the process of framing the syllabus. Dedicated efforts are made to ensure that the syllabus framed is “Employment Centric” and potentially lucrative.
MOUs with reputed industries and organizations will enable the institution to offer one or two courses in every semester which can be taught by experts from industries/organizations. Such a move will help the students to acquire latest technical knowledge. This will bridge the gap between the industry and the institution, thereby enabling the student to be industry ready.
Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS): We follow the ‘Choice Based Credit System’. CBCS has numerous advantages over the conventional system. Rather than evaluating student-performance using marks and percentages, which many a time can be very inconsistent and unfair. CBCS uses Grades and Grade Point Averages (GPA) to evaluate student-performance. Using Grades and GPAs instead of marks and percentages provides a more holistic metric to measure student performance.
Method of grading for students is based on their academic performance. At NCET, the following grading pattern is adopted.

Better Subject Choice and Electives : In addition to regular electives, open electives are offered by different departments to all the students. This will enable the students to choose interdisciplinary electives.
Certification Courses offered by reputed institutions such as IITs and IISc, Companies like Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, National Instruments, Autodesk, etc are made available. Students are given assistance to prepare for such certification courses. The college encourages the students to use online courses through MOOCs and Spoken Tutorials programme offered by IITB, Mumbai. Appropriate credit benefits are given to the students who receive these certificates.
The college uses modern teaching techniques such as E-Resources and Flipped Class Rooms. Peer tutoring concept is effectively adopted to help the slow learners in their studies. The college is approved as a nodal centre for the use of Virtual Laboratory, which is initiated by MHRD and supported by IITs and NITs is used in the curriculum. In addition to the experiments which can be physically conducted, a few virtual lab experiments are included in all the laboratory courses and integrated courses.
